Something To Think About (From VU Campus Ministries)

Last week I received an email from a friend encouraging me to watch a short video.  It was a
video of a baptismal service – appropriate I thought since I am involved in ministry.  As I
watched this video there was nothing out of the ordinary, it appeared to be a normal
baptismal service.  The minister finished the first baptismal ceremony and helped the young
boy out the water.  The scene continues with the minister standing in the water waiting for
the next person to enter.  As the minister is standing there waiting, out of the corner of the
camera shot you see this kid come flying through the air – CANNONBALL right into the
water!  Soaked the minister, soaked his Bible, and soaked anyone who was close to the
baptistry.

Needless to say at that point I was laughing hysterically.  But I have to admit, I believe that is
exactly how everyone should enter the baptismal pool – jump right in and don’t hold
anything back.  That child was not concerned about how cold the water was and he was not
concerned about what others thought of him.  That was a kid excited about entering the
water!

Every kid that sees a baptismal pool has the same thought, “How big of a splash could I get
out of that pool?”  Somewhere along the journey adults seem to lose that excitement about
their faith.  Life’s difficulties bring us down, comments or actions from an individual suck the
joy from our faith journey, a bad church experience, and years of hurt cause us to approach
our faith with less excitement and passion.

Let me encourage you today not to stand at the edge of the pool and wonder how cold the
water is.  Don’t be timid about what others may think.  God has an amazing journey planned
for you.  Be excited about the opportunities before you.  Jump into your faith journey with
both feet and enjoy the water.  Jesus said in Matthew 18:3, “Unless you change and
become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”  I now have a new
interpretation of “becoming like a little child” – CANNONBALL!

If you would like to watch the video, I found it on YouTube – type in “fastest baptism in the
world” in the search field – ENJOY!

HAVE A GREAT WEEK AND ENJOY “THE WATER”!
